Hear from Jurors How Courtroom Technology Affects Their Ability to Understand the Evidence
The video shown on the left (prepared by Robb Helt, a fellow trial consultant) shows a post-trial discussion with jurors in a rural area of our country. The jurors are candid and enthusiastic about the impact of technology on their ability to ingest the information they saw and heard throughout the trial. If this video doesn't put to rest the "Technology will make us look too slick" argument, I don't know what will. Thanks, Robb, for sharing this jury's insights. (You'll see that the faces of the jurors in the video have been blurred to protect their privacy. Minor editing has also been done to exclude references to names in the case.)
Evans Training & Consulting is Now Certified to Train Concordance
As of March 2011, Evans Training & Consulting is so very pleased to announce that we are now certified trainers for Lexis-Nexis Concordance. After 20 years of working for another similar litigation support software, we were able to participate in a certification program held in Dallas, Texas two weeks ago to get certified on the latest version of Concordance. (Thank you, Ed, for the excellent training. And if you haven't seen the Concordance training materials, you're in for a treat!) What an eye-opener! For years, we'd heard that Concordance wasn't user-friendly, but that was quite the opposite of what we experienced.
There are so many features that our clients will like. Get in touch with us so we can show them to you and, hopefully, train your staff.
We also train and resell other Lexis-Nexis products, specifically, CaseMap (a terrific case analysis tool and one that will connect with other litigation support software for document management), TimeMap (a timeline program that we use at every trial we work on), and TextMap (a fully competitive product with other transcript software programs). Having not looked at TextMap for years, we were pleasantly surprised at the amazing array of features it offers to users now, and we can recommend it with no hesitancy at all.
Please give us a call at 480-899-5588 or email us at info@evanstraining.com for more information.

Eclipse Certified Trainer
Evans Training & Consulting - Certified Trainers & Resellers for IPRO Eclipse
We are so pleased to announce that we've been certified to train IPRO's Eclipse program. We've been watching Eclipse develop for a while now, and what most impresses us is IPRO's responsiveness to suggestions from those of us in the field. We believe Eclipse is a force to be reckoned with in the days to come. Eclipse's production tools are far and away, in our opinion, among the best in the business. We look forward to our continued partnership with IPRO in the development of Eclipse, and we can't wait to train this program for clients looking for a state-of-the-art lit support program.
AccessData Summation Discontinues Summation Certified Trainer Program
On July 22, 2010, AccessData and Summation merged to form a new entity called AccessData Group. After many discussions between Summation Certified Trainers and AccessData representatives, AccessData decided to "retire" the SCT title and discontinue the program. On December 1, 2010, they sent a "Cease and Desist" letter to all Summation Certified Trainers stating that, as of January 3, 2011, we all must "cease and desist from representing" ourselves as SCT Certified. So that's why you see "Former SCT" on many of our listings. If you'd like to read the letter, AccessData published it on the Advanced Summation Users' forum, so I've added a link to a copy of it here. As part of this discontinuance, AccessData removed the trainer search page from Summation's website, which meant that locating a trainer -- other than a corporate AccessData trainer -- was difficult.
Summation's SCTs were a powerful force for their clients in the market, as has been confirmed by so many people who have contacted us in the last few months. Many of us believe that it is important for clients to have access to independent advice from experienced professionals. As a result, several former SCTs worked together to develop a website that will give clients exactly that -- a place to go to locate an independent trainer, consultant or reseller. As of January 10th, 2011, please visit www.legalsoftwaretrainers.com to search for company-independent professional assistance. We look forward to continuing working with our clients and, we hope, to gaining new clients seeking independent training and consulting.
Evans Training & Consulting Works Alongside Ryley Carlock & Applewhite to Win a Unanimous Jury Verdict! Evans Training & Consulting was asked by long-time client Ryley, Carlock & Applewhite to assist both inside and outside the courtroom with a month-long jury trial in Phoenix for one of the Valley's major corporate clients. The trial team -- consisting of Bob Pohlman, Jeff Simmons, Julie Maurer, Sharon Menendez, Cheryl Evans (of Evans Training), and other dedicated RCA attorneys and staff -- worked together to achieve a 100% unanimous defense verdict! The case involved many hours of deposition video, several hundred pages of exhibits, as well as a powerful surveillance video that helped convince the jury of the merit of the defense position.
Bob, Jeff and Julie were able to not only convey the client's position in the case, but also to explain the various medical, metallurgical and chemical aspects of the facts that they needed to grasp. By the end of the day, the jurors understood exactly what was happening in the case. Special kudos go to Julie on her first jury trial! The Court's staff members were very professional and a pleasure to work with. Special thanks go to Bert Binder, the eCourtroom coordinator at the Superior Court in Phoenix, for her efforts facilitating the use of the court's equipment.
When the verdict came in, the general counsel of the corporate client commented, "Well deserved congratulations go to the RCA trial team for delivering this wonderful result. Congratulations and thanks also go to ... consultant Cheryl Evans whose mastery of trial software helped crystallize the trial themes and message for the jury." One of Ryley Carlock's attorneys said, "Never another trial without Cheryl!" Thanks go to the Ryley Carlock team, and their client, for being such a fantastic group to work with! Congratulations to all!
